Summary
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasingly prevalent condition with various etiologies. Genetic factors play a significant role in many forms of CKD, but their mechanisms and clinical implications are poorly understood. The Halbritter Lab Nephrogenetics was first established in August 2016 at the University of Leipzig. In 2021, when Jan Halbritter was promoted to a Heisenberg-Professorship at Charité, we transferred to Berlin to expand our research activities translationally by connecting to the Center for Rare Kidney Diseases (CeRKiD). Our main focus is on studying the underlying mechanisms of hereditary CKD, such as cystic kidney disease, CKD of unknown origin, and disorders of kidney stone formation.
